Baltimore County Green Party Statement on Christopher Clapp shooting

 

Christopher Clapp was shot and killed last Wednesday morning, by an off-duty Baltimore County Police Department officer, moon-lighting as a grocery store security guard.  There are many unanswered questions and grave concerns about this fatal shooting, which is part of a national upturn in fatal shootings by police, disproportionately directed against People of Color.

The Baltimore County Green Party calls for the immediate suspension of Officer McCain, pending a full investigation.  This investigation must be conducted by a truly independent body, representative of the communities involved.  The investigation should also include the conflict-of-interest dimensions of County Police moon-lighting for private companies.
